Embossed Noteboooks

The process of embossing involves stamping your logo into the cover using a metal die. The result is a relief effect, where the artwork is visible thanks to the depth of the embossing.

No, there is no printing process involved with a blind embossed notebook. It is only the result of a die being stamped into the cover. Some notebooks, notably the Castelli Tucson, look like they have been printed but this is actually the effect of the heat used during embossing making the cover material darker.

Ah, we’ve been found out! Actually we deboss books not emboss. Debossing is the process of stamping into the cover which is what we are doing, but for reasons we cannot explain it is referred to as embossing in the industry. So yes, we do offer debossing and technically we do not offer embossing, which would raise the artwork off the cover.

This is a technical reference to the lack of ink used in the process.

It all depends on what impact you are looking to make with your notebooks. An embossing is more subtle than a foil or digital print. That works for some people, for others it is too understated. Perhaps the main advantage of embossing is that it means your notebooks are more likely to be kept and used by the recipient, as they are less obviously a branded gift.

Yes, but this is more expensive. Our normal pricing allows for embossing within an area on the cover with a margin of around 15mm to the edges. We can go full-bleed with the embossing but it requires more technical input to assess it beforehand. We also can’t emboss to the spine, for technical reasons, so it lends itself to designs that bleed off the top, bottom and right-hand edges.

Despite this, we can achieve amazingly fine detail when embossing (see some of the military crests we have done) and this can be quite beautiful.
